Bruno Liljefors was born on 14 May 1860 in Uppsala, Sweden. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and travelled to Germany and Venice to broaden his skills. He became the greatest Swedish wildlife painter of his era and one of the most influential nature painters in European art history. He lived for many years on Bullerön, an island in the Stockholm archipelago, where he immersed himself in the natural world. He died on 18 December 1939 in Uppsala.
